Summer Getaway Secrets….
Ever been in a place of such natural beauty that it took your breath away? Most of us can immediately picture that special place. Tropical landscapes or rugged mountain vistas or charming country villages, each one of us has a place that draws us to a home away from home…and keeps us coming back for more.Whether it’s the promise of a relaxing vacation or a favorite outdoor activity, we all long to be in a place that we love, doing the things we like best and spending time with people closest to us.But designing the perfect weekend escape or the ideal vacation home is a process that takes into consideration criteria that are not typically used when designing a primary residence. Since vacation homes typically offer more flexibility than primary residences in terms of daily function, there is a greater design freedom. A weekend escape can be fun and less formal, bringing together unexpected and whimsical design elements that reflect the personality of the owners and help to tell their own vacation story.
Recently, our team completed a charming mountain retreat for a young family where we incorporated our clients’ love for one-of-the kind historic pieces into the structure itself by using reclaimed woods from an old mill on ceiling, cabinetry and panel treatments.
We were able to work in surprising and fun elements along the way too. An old-fashioned pulley serves as a lift for art pieces in the living room and we turned an old canoe into a stunning light fixture in the loft adding character and reflecting the owners’ self expression through this design.
A vacation home should in itself be the perfect getaway: luxurious yet comfortable, functional in every way but also relaxing and tranquil. It should incorporate the elements of the surrounding environment and weave them playfully and tastefully into the personality of the homeowners. Maximizing the views and bringing in indigenous natural elements into the design will ensure that house reflects the place that the owners originally fell in love with.
Phase II starts for Inspire Design Foundation project!
The Inspire Design Foundation unveiled the winning design for the remodel of the East Valley Campus of the Foundation for Blind Children, moving this year’s project into Phase II. The winner of this year’s design concept was Kristen Abbey. Please join us on congratulating Kristen on her winning design and on receiving the $1,000 scholarship prize! On May 21, 2013 Inspire Design Foundation and the Foundation for Blind Children team gathered at the East Valley Concept to review the design concept and Kristen’s overview of materials and space reconfiguration.
As we now move into the crucial phase of execution, we are especially in need of ongoing support to make this plan come true. Please review the materials and services that are still needed and we thank you in advance for joining all of our current supporters who are generously providing their time, talents, resources and funds to make this dream happen for the children and adults benefiting from the services offered by the Foundation for Blind Children. Please take a moment to review our sponsorship opportunities and call us to let us know how you can help with this worthy cause.
We are always grateful to our industry partners who make our work possible. This month we would like to shine the spotlight on our friends at Rest Assured. Rest Assured, Inc. is owned and operated by Peter and Lynn Blake. Peter began working in the delivery and installation business in 1978. After working with an interior design and antiques firm, Peter saw the need for specialized delivery and installation of high value furnishings and fine art. He has since become the valley’s most trusted expert in this industry, and Rest Assured is now the leading installation firm for interior designers in the greater Phoenix area. We love working with the team at Rest Assured and our clients value and appreciate their commitment to top notch service.
