Scottsdale Interior Design | Cooking Up Award Winning Kitchens
The 2014 ASID North Chapter Design Excellence Awards were recently announced. Over the next few weeks we will be discussing each of the 5 projects that won an award in detail. Today we are starting with the kitchen that won Honorable Mention in the Kitchen-New or Remodel category.
This beautiful kitchen incorporates the technique of massing as well as a combination of beautiful materials to create a luxurious simplicity in and large volume space. The project took a dated Southwestern home and transformed it into a sleek, clean lined kitchen with a modern aesthetic expressed in grey toned slab paneled doors, a Carrera waterfall island and weathered oak wide-plank floors. Function, always vital in any kitchen, is maximized for the cook’s efficiency with integrated pantries, wine storage and a full range. The crispness of white counter tops and a white tile back splash contrasts with the grey toned refined oak cabinetry. This is done to capture the viewer’s focus. A larger rectangular track adds architectural interest in the vaulted ceiling and flexible lighting.
The vaulted ceiling adds much needed architectural interest and is highlighted with weathered gray planking and beams. The valance in the cabinetry creates a strong horizontal line accented with the vertical line of the subway white range back splash.
Warm greys and whites add a nice tension of contrast anchored by a wide plank textural floor. The simple massing of the cabinets separates the dining area while adding much storage. The rectangular space above unites the rooms.
